Cross Country at South Sioux meet

  • The cross country teams competed in the South Sioux City cross country meet Thur. afternoon. The ladies were the first to compete. It is truely a challenge since both class A and B run together so you are running with 101 runners but they are scored seperate. Renee Choquette was our top finisher coming in 21st. Paige Copple continues to lower her time by cutting 19 seconds. The guys had to compete with 106 runners. Skyler Hostetler finished 2nd while Hunter Hostetler come in 3rd. We finished 5th out of 9 teams.

    In the junior high Brennan Brown medaled finishing 6th out of 29. Tyler Siegfried was 12th while Juan Gomez was 13th. Top finisher for the girls was Brooklyn Topf coming in 20th. Amy Hamann and Mackenzie Malloy each lowered their race times. This group only has 2 more races, one next Thur while conference will be Oct. 8th Nice job everyone!

Cross Country at Southwoods

  • The cross county teams had a successful day at Southwoods. The guys defended their home turf and brought home the trophy! Hunter Hostetler finished 1st, Skyler Hostetler 2nd, Brandon Croghan was 4th, James Goodin 13th and TJ VanMuyden was 18th. Renee Choquette finished 3rd while McKayla Wood (11th) and Paige Copple (12th) finished just out of the medals.
  • The junior high also ran well. Brennan Brown finished 1st, Tyler Siegfried 2nd, Juan gomex 3rd, Brooklyn Topf 7th, and Amy Hamann 10th. Just out of the medals were Kelsey Merryman 11th, Rylee Winters 12th and Mackenzie Malloy 13th.

    Thank you to all the workers. It is because of them the meet ran so smoothly.

Cross Country at Moville

The cross country teams competed in the Woodbury Central meet yesterday. Paige Copple ran her best race of the season lowering her season best by 2 minutes and 40 seconds on a hilly course. Skyler Hostetler come in 2nd while Hunter Hostetler finished in 4th. They will next compete in our home meet on Monday at Southwoods.

Cross Country - Tim Thomas Classic at Holstein

  • The junior high got thier cross country season started on Sat. at the Tim Thomas meet at Holstein. They all represented Westwood well with their runs. Brennan Brown was our first finisher followed by Tyler Siegfried, Juan Gomez and Rylee Winters. Brooklyn Topf was the first girl finisher followed by Amy Hamann, Kelsey Merryman and Mackenzie Malloy. They were all happy to have the first one down. This meet was one of their largest races with 78 guys and 58 girls. This is quite scary with that many runners and your first race. They did a very good job so please congratulate them.

    The varsity cross country team also competed. TJ VanMuyden made the biggest gain over last years time by cutting 4.5 minutes. James Goodin cut almost a minute from last year. Brandon Croghan was our only medalist finishing 49th out of 118. For the girls McKayla Wood ran almost the exact same time as last year. Paige Copple also competed and has a goal of cutting 4 minutes on her next race. Nice job everyone!

Cross Country - Heelan Meet

The high school cross country season started with great weather to run on Friday. The guy's team was lead by Skyler Hostetler and Hunter Hostetler finishing 2nd and 3rd in our class. The guys finished 3rd as a team in our class. Brandon Croghan and Paige Copple has their first varsity races. Renee Choquette had the best run of the night finishing almost a whole minute faster than her last year's time. It was nice to have a race and not just another practice. A few of them learned something about themselves and their effort during the run. They can work hard to get ready for the next meet which is Sept. 8th at Holstein when the junior high will join us. Nice job runners!

Girl's district track

The girl's track team finished 6th at districts. Many relay and personal bests were achieved. The shuttle hurdle team of Megan Crawford, Kelsie Lyon, Kallie Kressin and Renee Choquette finished 2nd literally on the shoulder of the first place team. Megan C also jumped a personal best getting second in the long jump (tied for 1st but got 2nd based on their 2nd longest jump). The 4 x 100 team of Breea Bockelmann, Megan Polly, Kallie and Megan C also got 2nd with a relay best. All of these girls will have to wait on the cut off times to come out later today. Rachael Steinhoff ran a personal best in the 800 (in a relay) of 2:49. Skye Burton and Brittany Hamann also personal best in their 400. Kallie K got 4th in the 400 hurdles. 5th place finish by Kallie K in the 100 hurdles and by the 4 x 200 team of Breea, Megan P, Renee, and Megan C. 6th place finishes by Racheal in the 800 and Breea in the 100. Skye got 7th in the 400 while the Distance Medley team of Katie Stuble, Shannen Platzeck, Kelsie and Rachael also finished 7th. Kaylee Hobbs got 8th in the shot put as well as Kelsie L in the 800. Nice job ladies! We say good bye to 9 seniors, their smiles will be missed.

Track- Junior High Girls Conference Meet Results

The Junior Westwood Girls claimed the Conference Title at Lawton Tuesday night. The girls scored 168 points to runner up OA-BCIG's 90 points. The girls claimed 11 conference first place finishes. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100, and 200 dash (Nettleton tied the school record in the 100 dash in 12.96), East in the high jump and 1500, Nielson in the 10 Flight Hurdles, and Metcalf in the 200 Hurdles. Relay firsts went to the 10 Flight Shuttle Hurdle team of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford, Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Hanner, and Shilling, and the 4X100 of Shilling Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton. The cheers turned into tears as they ran their final victory lap as the undefeated season came to an end. They were silenced in knowing that their domination might not ever be repeated again. Awesome season ladies and very well deserved! They will celebrate their season at the track picnic next Wednesday at Southwoods.

Track- Junior High Girls Mapleton Meet Results

On the eve of the conference at Mapleton the Junior High Lady Rebels came away with their widest margin of victory this season. Westwood scored 175 points to runner up OA-BCIG's 92 points. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100 and 200 dash, East in the 1500 meters, Metcalf in the 200 hurdles, and Alisha Nielson in the 10 Flight Hurdles. Relay first went to the Shuttle Hurdle of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz and Crawford, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling, 4 X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton, and the 4 X400 of Mendenhall, M. Whitney, Steinhoff, and East. Schelm finished strong in the 1500 to grabe 6th pklace. When told she received a pink ribbbon she exclaimed, "Pink is my favorite color!" Steinhoff after running her second 400 of the nigh in the victorious 4X400 relay gasped, "I love 400s! I'm following in my dad's footsteps!" The girls go for their second consecutive conference title tonight at Lawton. Abby "The Speed Demon" Crawford stated, "We are SO ready to be champs again! Bring it On!" Hope to see everyone tonight cheering on the Rebels at Lawton!

Rebel Girl's Home Trackmeet

The Lady Rebel track team performed well at their home meet on Friday. Kaylee Hobbs and Kayla Nielson through personal or season best at the shot while Danielle Folsom did the same with the discus. Place winners were: 5th place by the Distance Medley relay (Katie Struble, Shannen Platzek, Kelsie Lyon and Rachael Steinhoff), 4 x 800 (Shannen, Skye Burton, Brittany Hamann, and Crystal Peres), Kaylee in the shot and Breea Bockelmann in the 200. 4th place was taken by the 4 x 200 (Breea, Megan Polly, Renee Choquette and Megan Crawford). Third place finishes by: 4 x 100 (Breea, Megan P, Kallie Kressin and Megan C), the shuttle hurdle relay ( Megan C, Kelsie L, Kallie K, and Renee C) and then by Megan Crawford in the long jump. They will next compete at districts where the first place winners advance to state as well as the next best 12 across the state. Wish them luck!

Track- Junior High Girls River Valley Meet Results

The Westwood Junior High girls continued their winning ways as they captured 13 of the 18 events Thursday night at River Valley. Westwood tallied 183 points for the night. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100, & 200, Wood in the 10 Flight Hurdles, Metcalf in the 200 Hurdles, and East in the 1500 with a new Junior High Girls School Record with a 5:30. Relay first went to the 4 X 800 of Holverson, Hines, K. Whitney, and Mendenhall, Shuttle Hurdle of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford. Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, 4X200 of Hanner, Cole, Reynolds, and Mendenhall, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling, 4X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton, and the 4X400 of Hines, M. Whitney, East, and Wood. Reynolds was heard saying on the bus ride home, "Oh, Yeah! I'm cool just like my blue ribbon!" Kelsey Whitney performed so well that she had tears in her eyes as she watched her Grandpa Chuck cheer her on. Good Job Lady Rebels on another victory!

Girl's conference track

At the conference meet the girls finished 11th out of 16. Top places were Megan Crawford 2nd in the long jump, the shuttle hurdle team of Megan C, Kelsie Lyon, Kallie Kressin and Renee Choquette also got 2nd. Kallie also got 5th in the 400 hurdles and 6th in the 100 hurdles; Breea Bockelmann tied for 8th in the 100 meter dash. Many other events, races had good performances as well. The athletes had fun and supported each other. The represented Westwood very well. Naomi Greder was 9th in the discus. The 4 x 200 team finished 9th while the 4 x 800 team came in 10th. We were 11th in the 4 x 100, 4 x 400 and Renee Choquette in the 100 and 400 meter hurdles. Breea Bockelmann was 12th in the 200 as well as the Distance medley team and our sprint medley finished 13th. They will finish out their season with the Rebel Relays followed by districts at Hinton.

Track- 7th Grade Girls Westwood Meet Results

The 7th grade junior high track girls came out to prove their abilities in front of a home crowd on Thursday night. The 7th grade cleaned house by scoring 101 points to Woodbury Central's 53 points and claiming 12 of the 14 events. Individual first went to M. Whitney in the long jump and 400 dash, East in the high jump and 800 meter run, Shilling in the 100 and 200 dash, and Wood in the 10 Flight hurdles. Relay first went to the Shuttle hurdle of M. Whitney, Toben, Metcalf, and Nielson, 400 Medley of Cole, Mendenhall, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, the 800 Meter Relay of Hanner, Cole Mendenhall and Steinhoff, the 800 Meter Medley Relay of Nielson, East, Hanner, and Wood, and the 400 Meter Relay of Hanner, Steinhoff, Cole, and Shilling. Shook was over heard saying, "That was so awesome, I wish track was a year round sport!" Alea Cole was also heard screaming after the meet, "We Won! We Won! I was totally inspired by the coaches speech to prove that Westwood is the best team around!"

Track- Junior High Girls Woodbury Central Meet Results

On a hot afternoon in Kingsley the Junior High Girls Track continued their winning streak, scoring 176 points to second place Woodbury Central's 107 points. Individual first went to Nettleton in the long jump, 100, and 200, Metcalf in the 200 Hurdles, East in the 1500, and Wood int he 10 Flights. Relay teams that grabbed first were the shuttle hurdle of M. Whitney, Holtz, Nielson, and Crawford, Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Steinhoff, and Metcalf, Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford and Shilling, and the 4 X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton. Individual 2nd places went to Collins int eh 10 Flights, Toben in the 200 Hurdles,and K. Whitney in the 800. JoAnna Hanner gets the good luck award after false starting in the Distance Medley and not getting disqualifed. She was overheard saying, "I am sure glad the starter had a blind eye." Holtz after celebrating the 176 point victory shouted out, "Bailey didn't get as many blues as I a am getting." The 7th grade girls will be back on the track Thursday at home.

Junior High Girls Track Westwood Meet Results

In a display of dominance the Westwood Junior High Girls claimed the team title by scoring 122 points last night at the home meet. The Rebels claimed 15 first place finishes out of the 18 events. Claiming individual blues were Nettleton in the long jump, 100 meter dash, and 200 meter dash, Mykenzie Whitney in the 400 dash, Shook in the discus, East in the 1500 run, Wood in the 10 Flights, Metcalf in the 200 hurdles, and Kelsey Whitney in the 800 meter. Relays that claimed first were Holverson, K. Whitney, Hines, and Mendenhall in the 4 X800, M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford in the Shuttle Hurdle, Hanner, Shilling, Wood, and Metcalf in the Distance Medley, Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling in the Sprint Medley, Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton in the 4 X100, and Hines, M. Whitney, East and Wood. Mykenzie Whitney was heard saying after the meet, "My pre-meet injury didn't hurt me at all." Nettleton rejoiced after winning 4 blues quoted, "Blue is my favorite color!" Great job girls. They will be back in action in Kinglsey tonight up against some new tough competition they have not seen so far this year.

Junior High Girls Onawa Meet

The Junior High Girls came out fired up on all 8 cylinders as they ran away from the competition Friday night at the Onawa meet. Westwood claimed the first place team title by scoring 164.5 points to 3A Sergeant Bluff-Luton's 108 points. Individual first went to Nettleton in the 200 meter dash and the long jump, Summer Wood in the 10 Flight Hurdles, and Paige Metcalf in the 200 meter hurdles. Relays that grabbed first included the Shuttle Hurdle team in school record time of M. Whitney, Nielson, Holtz, and Crawford, in another school record time the Distance Medley of Hanner, Shilling, Wood, and Metcalf, the Sprint Medley of Nielson, Holtz, Crawford, and Shilling, 4 X100 of Shilling, Crawford, Metcalf, and Nettleton, and the 4X400 of M. Whitney, Hines, Hanner, and Wood. The Stealth Bomber went to Collins in the 10 Flight Hurdles. She shocked the world with 2nd place, just inches behind Wood . Other 2nd place individuals went to Nettleton in the 100, East in the 1500, K. Whitney in the 800, and Crawford in the high jump. Collins was overheard saying, "I don't know what happened to me. How did I run so fast?" Alyssa Mendenhall after outstanding performances gasped, "I love this sport, victory is Sweet." Great Job girls! They will be back in action Monday night at home.

Junior High Girls Track

The Junior High Girls Track Team is eager to start the season. With a rain out last night, their first meet will be Thursday, April 19th in Onawa. In 18 days the girls will have 8 meets!
April 19th- at Onawa
April 23rd at Sloan
April 24th at Kinglsey
April 26- at Sloan (7th Grade Meet)
April 27th at Lawton
May 3rd at Correctionville
May 7th at Mapleton
May8th Conference meet at Lawton
All meets begin at 4 pm, except the conference meet starts at 3pm.
Please come out and support your Rebels! They have been working very hard all season to prepare for the meets.

Newcomer seventh grader, Heather East, stated, "I wish they had the 2 mile run in junior high instead of just the mile run!"

Girl's track Kingsley & Onawa

  • Monday the girl's track team traveled to Kingsley. The shuttle hurdle team of Megan Crawford, Kallie Kressin, Taylor Campbell and Renee Choquette came in first. Renee also got second in the 100m hurdles and the high jump. Taylor tied for 3rd in the high jump. The 4 x 100 team of Megan C., Taylor, Kallie and Breea Bockelmann also got 3rd. Naomi Greder got 4th in the discus as well as the sprint medley team of Katie Struble, Megan Polly, Megan C. and Renee.

    Tuesday the girl's traveled to Onawa. We only brought home 3 medals here. Breea in the 100, Megan C in the long jump and the Shuttle hurdle team got 2nd with Kelsie Lyon, Megan C, Kallie, and Renee.

Girl's track - Holstein

The outdoor track season started on Friday at the Ridge View Relays. There was a rain delay but otherwise nice weather for the first meet. The girls' team came in 3rd overall. First place was won by the shuttle hurdle comprised of Megan Crawford, Taylor Campbell, Kallie Kressin and Renee Choquette. Renee also tied for first in the high jump but in the jump off received second place honors. Two other seconds; Naomi Greder in the discus and Kelsie Lyon in the 800.
Third places were won by Renee in the 400m hurdles and the 4 x 200 team of Katie Struble, Megan Crawford, Megan Polly and Breea Bockelmann.
Special mention to girls who did things they normally don't all to try to get us more team points - Kaylee Hobbs and Kelsie Lyon.
